Which Ping driver is right for you?
Choose your Ping driver around your ball flight, strike pattern and what you want to improve off the tee. The model names explain the main differences:
- Max: forgiving all-round models. The G440 Max features an adjustable rear weight to help fine-tune shot shape.
- SFT – Straight Flight Technology: draw-biased weighting designed to help reduce a slice. The G440 SFT is an option if you need help straightening your ball flight.
- LST – Low Spin Technology: designed to reduce spin. The G440 LST may suit golfers with faster swings who need a more penetrating flight.
- HL – High Launch: a lighter combination of head, shaft and grip. G440 HL builds help golfers with slower swings generate speed and launch the ball higher.
- G440 K: designed for stability on off-centre strikes, with a rear weight that can be set to Neutral, Draw or Fade to influence shot shape.
Use your current ball flight as a starting point. A faster swing does not automatically make LST the best choice. The combination of head, shaft and weight matters more than any single model name.
How do you choose the right loft and shaft?
Loft and shaft should work together with the driver head and your swing. The G440 Max, for example, comes in 9°, 10.5° and 12° lofts, with adjustment of up to 1.5° in either direction.
When comparing specifications, look beyond Regular or Stiff. Shaft weight, flex and length can all affect how the club feels and performs. If you already know your preferred specifications, use them as a starting point when comparing the available options. Is a previous-generation Ping driver good value?
If you are looking for a Ping driver on sale or a more affordable option, previous generations are worth comparing. Dormy often carries earlier models at lower prices, giving you another way to find a driver that suits your game and budget.
The G430 Max and G430 Max 10K are two forgiving options with different features. The Max has a movable rear weight to influence shot shape. The Max 10K uses a fixed rear weight and prioritises stability. Its 10K name refers to a combined moment of inertia above 10,000 — a measure of the head’s resistance to twisting on off-centre strikes.
